How to calculate flooring square feet

For a rectangular room, multiply length by width:

Floor area = length × width

For example, a 12 × 10 ft room has 120 square feet of floor area.

How much extra flooring should I order?

ATHENA adds a 10% planning allowance for cuts and normal material loss. The recommended area for a 120-square-foot room is therefore 132 square feet.

Your actual extra requirement can vary with the room layout, product, pattern, and installation method. Follow the flooring manufacturer's guidance when it is available.

How many boxes do I need?

Divide the recommended square footage by the coverage listed on the package, then round up to a whole box:

Boxes = recommended square feet ÷ coverage per box

For example, if a room needs 132 square feet including the planning allowance and each box covers 20 square feet, the order quantity is 7 boxes.
